Bukchon Hanok Village – Steve Miller’s EYE #8 [Canon EOS C100]

If you were to ask me what’s my favorite thing about Seoul, the answer always remains the same. “I love the way that old and new are juxtaposed together,” I’ll say. While you can easily see this while visiting the palaces or temples, another great example is the hanok village.

Located about a half kilometer from Anguk Station (Line 3, Exit 2), is Bukchon Hanok Village. It’s located between Gyeongbok Palace, Changdeok Palace, and the Jongmyo Royal Shrine.

The area has been set aside to preserve the 600-year-old traditional houses of the Joseon Dynasty. Today, it’s a popular area for couples and families to walk around. It’s also been used several times in various Korean Dramas.

Among the private residences, several traditional Korean restaurants and tea houses exist. Those interested in staying in a Hanok overnight can do so through the Hanok Homestay Experience.

It’s a lovely area, and I highly recommend spending part of your visit here, navigating these historic streets.
